After what seemed like an unending winter it had finally started to warm up. This weekend it was 55 degrees - woohoo, heat wave! But it's not just the warmer temperatures, but due to get colder again during the week, but it's starting to smell like spring and the birds are coming back.
Today, in celebration of Easter, we went for a walk in Havenwoods State Forest, which is located in north western Milwaukee, eight miles from the heart of downtown. During our hike we saw a fox, a pair of blue birds, a sand hill crane, chickadees, cardinals, red wing black birds, and scads of robins.
It's so fun to watch the changes that occur when winter becomes spring, however sometimes while living in a city these changes are overshadowed by massive amounts of litter being blown about by the springtime wind and extra potholes and heaves in the streets. But springtime in the city means the start of barbecue season, longer daylight hours, cyclists out in force, and smile on almost every face you see.
